In the waning days before Coco Vivian arrives we have been scheduling dinners with friends on the contingency that the baby does not arrive and trump our plans. Tonight we had dinner with Grant and Alicia Schwabe.
Grant is the Ari Gold of Finance Litigation and a longtime family friend. He and Alicia recently got married and we finally seized the opportunity to grab dinner with them as a newly minted married couple. Both the Schwabe’s and the Cox’s hold it down in Brookside and we live literally one block from each other. We have the OU greek system solidly held down between the four of us with Fiji, Beta, Theta and Pi Phi being represented.
Common Euphemisms & Phrases used by Grant: “Crunk”, 3rd person reference to himself as “Big Worm”, “Pimp”, “Crunktastic”
In the summer of 2003 while on a legal exchange in the South of France I met a spectacular human being. His name is Matt Malone and I hold him in very high regard as a human being, diplomat, professional skier and kindred spirit.
He and his fiance are hot shot attorneys in DC and they are getting married in November. I received the invitation to their wedding the other day which prompted me to put together a post commemorating our friendship and reminiscing about that summer we met in 2003.
First, let me touch on the wedding invitation. I have received some well designed and fanciful invitations throughout the years, but I have to give it to my boy Matt and his girl Evi, they really topped them all with their invites. I believe that sophistication is not found in excess or frivolous adornment and needless frills. Their wedding invitations where very classy and sophisticated. On extremely thick card stock, with subtle raised typeset and an elegant organic vine adornment.
The Reception card was tastefully understated with a simple message “Reception Following the Ceremony Four Seasons Hotel Washington, D.C. Really I think I was wowed by the fact that their reception is at the Four Seasons. I have never been to a Four Seasons, but I have heard of it and it seems very high society. What I really liked about it was the fact that they did not have to include an address or a Map or any thing else, just “Four Seasons Hotel Washington D.C.” SWANK!!
Which brings us to the reply card . . .
After being so impressed with the classiness with which Evi and Matt did their invitations, I was sitting in my chair at my house holding the reply card . . . the thick, sturdy, delicately designed reply card. As I was about to fill it out with a regular pen, I realized that my paint pens where sitting right next to me. The urge to tag it up was too great!! Urban Art and graffiti are sometimes most intriguing when they pop up in places that they are not supposed to be. So Voila:
Now some old school photos of Matt Malone:

I just designed a tricked out baby website for the as-of-yet does not exist in our world baby Coco Vivian Cox. Alison has given me strict instructions that I am NOT to post photos or videos of baby Coco online, so this site is eventually going to be a highly restricted, authenticated portal for our friends and family to keep up with Coco.
Really it is just another Word Press based site with a KILLER theme slapped on top of it – which, by the way I designed tonight from about 7pm to 10pm. It uses a bunch of current design trends that I have been reading about on web design blogs. I am really proud of it, I think it is the shit. Screen shot below.
I don’t know how long it will be open to the public, so if you don’t know me or ali you better get your looks in before we lock it down!! However, if you are a friend or family member, we will happily provide you with an account to access all the happenings with the new member or our family.
Feast your eyes on the greatest baby blog design of all time:
Last year, I did not have wesleywinston.com hitting on all cylinders like I do these days and so I created this page about my experience at Oktoberfest when the tents collapsed. After a year I though I would reference the page from last year that detailed the experience.
Ali is going to pop any day now, we are just sitting around waiting on something to happen – I forsee lots of comical parody of “fatherhood” coming to weslehywinston.com very soon.
I picked up the Sony a350, a pretty solid 14MP DSLR camera.
However I am not confident that I want to go down that road, it is a big commitment once I start investing in lenses and flashes and battery expansion packs – NO TURNING BACK from sony at that point! So today I am going to have a conversation with the guy who sold it to me at Wolf Camera. Primarily at this point I am going to be getting his feedback on the Nikon D90 – which has caught my attention and looks like a solid camera. Everything I have read online says the D90 is a vastly superior camera, so I am pretty sure that I want to take back the Sony a350 and get the D90.
Other factors in the decision are whether Wolf Camera has the D90 in stock at the store and I can swap it out immedietly. The whole reason I bought the new high end DSLR is for the baby girl named Coco who is about decend from my wifes belly. So I def need a camera immedietely, because we don’t know when Coco will be coming to the earth.
I am so TORN, because this Sony has been the shizzy.
Will know more today at 10am when Wolf Camera opens.
[this post originally an email to Jordan Dudley] By the way, this email has such good information about my camera situation, that I am going to be copy and pasting it verbatim in my blog . . .
This was my first experience with the spectacular and amazing BOK center. It was an impressive compound – too bad we don’t have a team to make it their home.
As Coco gets closer and closer to coming to Earth from the Astral Plane we are getting more and more excited! We just bought me a new DSLR camera so I can take some hi quality photos of Coco, who by the way is just days away from being here – October 25th is the official due date, but Alison would be happy if she came tomorrow!!
So my first assignment with my fancy new camera was to photograph the baby room that we put together for Coco. You will notice that we used our exquisite taste and penchant for modular decor to outfit Coco’s Nursury. I have to give most of the credit to Alison she was the designer behind this environment and did a hell of job. Oh yea, and that bomb artwork on the wall you are probably wondering about . . . all art done by Alison and myself. Check it out:
I just recently got the latest line for my fashion house Weslet back from my friend and artist Nat McKnight. Luckily I had some cooperative friends in town this weekend who were down to do a photo shoot in the Weslet Line. So this afternoon after brunch we went back to my place where outfitted my friends Elizabeth Rische, Ginny Hoopes and Jason Opie. Once draped head to toe in Weslet gear, we went in the back yard for a photo shoot.
