Keep Mack in ‘03

This was my first ‘web-jab’ at Mack Brown. At the time there was an uproar at the University of Texas about how Mack Brown was overpaid and did not deserve the position as head coach at the University of Texas because he could not win a championship - National OR Big 12.

Needless to say, OU fans were happy with Mack at the helm because we were on a 3 year winning streak and had two more coming.

So this piece was my way of trying to celebrate the successes of Mack Brown so that maybe the Texas fans would lay off and let him stick around a couple more years. Of course it was sarcastic and poked fun at Texas - but the beauty of the piece was that nobody knew who did it, some people actually thought that a Texas fan had put it together and lambasted the piece on the message board for celebrating Mack Brown as a “Childrens CHAMPION” and “Recruiting CHAMPION” and “Cotton Bowl CHAMPION”

I got some good laughs at the reactions that it got from all the people - OU and Texas fans. The crazy response it got was the catalyst for my next Mack Brown piece “Conversations with Mack Brown” - a tribute piece to the interviews before and after the games during OU’s 5 game winning streak from 2000-2004. I have not been able to come up with a way to get at Texas Fans as good as this ever since.
