This past weekend the bulk of my dads side of the family got together at my Mom’s families lake house on Lake Eufaula. My dads parents, whom I have lovingly referred to as Mama and Papa since I was a little baby are named Robert Winston Cocke and Thelma Ann Cocke hailing from Wilburton Oklahoma. They have 4 sons: My vegan, meditating, tea-totaling father, Robert Winston Cox (Norman) Their homosexual, Native American, “two spirited” son John Hawke Co-cke (Tulsa) Their burly, masculine, cigar smoking, jolly son Will Eugene Cocke (Wilburton) and The youngest, laid back, cooler than cool, everybody loves him son Charles Wesley Cox (Dallas).
The four brothers don’t all share the same name because Robert and Charles had their name legally changed from Cocke to Cox years ago for obvious reasons. So that is correct, had my father not changed his name back in the day, my full legal name would be Wesley Winston Cocke. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Papa Rober has a sister named Anna Doris Pirtle who has three children of her own my fathers and uncles cousins: Janna, Jaime and Jay.
All of my dads brothers and cousins and their children where at the lake except for Will. When they get together it gets pretty loud, crazy and insanely funny. They are all such unique charachters and all have such strong personalities that the entire time spent with my dads side of the family is nothing but non stop laugh out loud funny.
This is the second track I have ever produced - I laid the beats, used the keyboard to compose the rhythms and sampled an audio CD from my Guru for the track.
It has a distinct HOUSE feel with typical 4/4 bass groove and a snare, but what makes it especially house is the echoing organ rift. What makes this track worth the listen in my opinion is the good message contained in the sampled audio - it talks about how unconscious we are when we drink and how to ’snap out of it.’

After 7 months, I have updated the design of the blog. Since I had the old header up there for a while I want to dedicate this post to remembering, honoring and expressing appreciation for all the hard work it did: Thanks WW header from 1st half of 2008, you really did a hell of job for the site and we appreciate everything that you did for us. More than anything you did an excellent job of fostering the image of wesleywinston as a true web hustla, good work, enjoy your retirement.
First, let me say that I am a proud Big Brother fan. 4 years ago Alison got me to start watching it - at the time I scoffed a little bit at her for watching what I thought at the time was Television
Vile. However, I gave it a shot and got sucked in. It is admittedly a guilty pleasure, however, we both look forward to watching it 3 times a week and enjoy watching every minute of it.
Now that I have got that off my chest, I can comment on the latest star of the show. You know when you see someone, or what someone on TV that people you know, friends, family have similarities or vague resemblances?
Well . . . as I was watching Big Brother the other night, it dawned on me that Jesse (the ripped up body builder) was a combination of two people who are close to me: Chase Schwabe, my brothers childhood friend and Mark Floyd, my high school friend and college frat bro. While this is not an exact prescription and other may not see the similarities, I noticed them. In fact, what got all of this started was a basic Twitter post which turned into this blog post:
“Big Brothers Jesse is a mix between Mark Floyd and Chase Schwabe with a dash of awkwardness and massive self directed thought.”
So to Elaborate I have prepared a little collage to showcase this assertion:
Last Winter 2007 we received an invite to attend “The Painted Pony Ball” a black tie gala with a ‘cowboy twist’ - put on by Susan Warren a local quadzillionaire. It was a hell of an event, lavish and ÜberCascia.
The same folk who attend the most exclusive black tie Tulsa events were there - except dressed in fancy country western get-up. It was a fresh take traditional black tie. What was most notable was the care, attention and MONEY that was pumped into the event. I have planned and hosted a few events in my day, most notably the Tulsa White Party, and I can tell you, no expense was spared at this event.
Speaking of which - this years White Party is going to go down at the Zoo a-la “Waltz on the Wildside” except the White Party is going to be an over the top, blowout party/concert/fashion show so LEGENDARY . . . . I digress.
If you want to become a corporate sponsor or just want a VIP Table at the upcoming White Party, book them fast, cause we are going to sell out quick. Here is link to the White Party IV SPONSOR PDF where you can find more information. Or call Lindsay at the Zoo to make your arrangements - 669-6637.
Anyhow - back to the point of this post, below are pics and a video from The Painted Pony Ball. Special thanks to Fraz Henke IV for inviting us and allowing us to share his table. Bro - you deserved that CMA and you will have that moment FOREVER.
Alyse spent 6 weeks this Summer in Paris France and traveled Europe. Upon her return home, the family got together to hang out at the lake house in Eufaula. Got to hang out with Aunt Liz and Aunt Linda which was good times as always. Had a dart tournament and did some yoga on the back deck of Liz and Linda’s cabin. Lake Eufaula is blowin’ up. It is the new hot spot IMO.
Last year for the Fourth we all ventured to Elizabeth Risches cabin and had a hella good time and the first annual Indian Leg wrestling tourney - I won the mens division. But last year I weighed in at 205, so after kicking dairy and becoming a “Chill Vegan” I was down to 175 and I was not packing as much punch with my leg thrusts. Well . . . 30 pounds is a lot of thrust to lose, and so, unfortunately I was eliminated after round 2. Here are some highlite pics from the leg wrestling tournament.
I have been hand painting sunglasses and selling them on weslet.com since last December. We have sold a few pairs online and in retail, but just had a recent surge in sales based on the popularity of rapper Soulja Boy. My wifes co-worker Nicole Singleton told Alison that her little sister was looking online to find some Soulja Boy Sunglasses and was having a difficult time and wanted to buy a pair of my tagged shades. So Alison gave her a bunch of glasses to sell to her sister and her sisters friends. She sold 4 pairs in a day. It was at this point that we realized that we needed to market them based on the angle that they were Soulja Boy Sunglasses - so I immediately set up a PPC campaign optimized weslet.com organically for that phrase, we will see how it goes! Meanwhile, Nicole is taking a whole new batch of the sunglasses to an outdoor African American festival where they are likely to sell like hot cakes.
Well, I guess our 15 minutes is officially about to expire! Alison and I got a call about 2 months ago from a writer of Destination Wedding Magazine asking us if we would be interested in being featured in their magazine. At the time we were both working in the backyard planting flowers and creating our own little eden. I remember thinking at the time, “How perfect is this, we are planting flowers and we get a call from a Magazine to be interviewed about our wedding.”
We gladly set up a time and then waited for the phone call later on that day. Apparently our wedding photographer had submitted our wedding pictures to this magazine and they liked them so much they wanted to feature us in the “I do, I do” section, which spotlights the best real life Destinations Weddings. So I guess that means we had a “Top Destination Wedding” - take that to anyone who complained at first that we were not going to have it at home in Oklahoma! I have included a link below to the PDF of the article and here is a link to our wedding website.
I set up a blog for my sister Alyse so that she could keep us all informed of her Travels as she spends the summer abroad gallivanting around Paris and across Europe. She has done quite well with it posting pictures and interesting stories. That is until she lost her camera in Holland. But even without pics she has done a very good job keeping us entertained with commentary about her experiences in Paris.
In fact, she was writing a post about her new French Haircut and got down a little bit on herself about how her blog was ‘boring’ - well low and behold, she got ranked on page 2 of google under “French haircut” and was getting interested readers and posters finding her blog and participating - total strangers who found her while looking for a French Haircut. She needs to post up some pics of some cool French Haircuts on that page so people can find what they are looking for! ALYSE - POST A PIC OF YOUR NEW FRENCH HAIRCUT!!!
Anyhow - here is a link to her blog, check it out, the Cox’s are starting some serious Blog domination, now I just need to get my brother, wife and parents on board and we will be set! Ben - do you want me to get you set up with your own blog!?!?
